Stay away from sports injuries! Types of injuries, treatment and prevention at a glance

Whether it's a student club, a professional team, or you just love to ask your friends to play a game of basketball, the exhilaration, sense of accomplishment, and sense of teamwork that sports bring always makes people want to play. However, with the increase in the frequency of sports, sports injuries also tend to sneak up on you.
In this article, UNISTAR Industries takes a closer look at some of the most common types of sports injuries and shares how to prevent them, how to deal with them in the moment, and how to follow up with rehabilitation advice, so that you can continue to enjoy your sports while avoiding regrets and pain.
Where Do Sports Injuries Come From? A Few Types of Injuries You Can't Afford to Ignore
In the course of serving many of our athletic teams, we often hear from our clients about injuries caused by inadequate warm-ups or incorrect footwear choices. In fact, sports injuries can be caused by a number of factors: inadequate warm-up, incorrect movement, wrong choice of equipment, or overloaded training volume.
Sports injuries vary depending on the type of sport, common ones being:
- Muscle strain: Starting a sprint too soon, the posterior leg muscle is not ready to exert force, commonly seen in high-impact sports such as soccer and basketball.
- Joint sprains: especially ankles and wrists, which are especially prone to sprains when changing directions, catching the ball, and landing on the ground.
- Torn ligaments, such as cruciate ligaments and lateral ligaments of the ankle, may require prolonged rehabilitation or even surgery.
- Fatigue Fractures: Especially seen in runners and basketball players, small cracks accumulated over time from over-training and not enough rest can lead to serious fractures.
These injuries don't just take you out of the game for a while, they can have a long-term impact on your athletic career. So what can you do to prevent these problems on a daily basis?
Sports Injury Prevention: Preparedness is More Important than Aftercare
The most fundamental principle in preventing sports injuries is to prepare the body for the challenges it will face.
The first step is to warm up properly. This is more than just stretching, it's a "dynamic warm-up" based on the exercise you're going to do, which means getting your muscles, joints, and cardio system into shape.
For example, if you are preparing to play basketball, you can start with short jogs and side walks, and then add in lightweight exercises such as jumps and changes of direction that mimic the game's movements. This sequence is not only safe, but also improves performance.
Next comes the choice of equipment and venue. We always emphasize in the process of designing jerseys with our clients that "even the strongest body needs the right support". Choosing the right shoes, the right compression pants, and even a jersey that fits well and wicks away sweat can help keep your body stable.
Finally, training intensity control and rest planning should not be overlooked. Excessive training does not mean faster progress, but rather chronic fatigue and high-risk movement errors. Post-exercise stretching and nutritional supplementation are also part of the prevention strategy.

What to do if you are really injured? Sports Injury Management
Whether you're new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, accidents happen. The first step is to stop exercising to avoid secondary injuries.
Next, the R.I.C.E. principle can be adopted as a preliminary approach:
- Rest: Avoid continuous loading of the injured area.
- Ice: 15-20 minutes each time to help reduce swelling and pain.
- Compression: Fixation with an elastic bandage helps to stabilize and reduce swelling.
- Elevation: Elevation above the heart helps blood flow and reduces swelling.
However, if there is significant swelling, unusual pain, or inability to bear weight, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible to avoid missing the golden time for treatment.
Sports Injury Rehabilitation Advice: Don't Rush Back to the Field, Hear Your Body's Voice

Many people are too anxious to return to the field as soon as their symptoms improve, resulting in more serious secondary injuries. In reality, the recovery period is more important than you think and requires more patience!
If the injury is a muscle strain or sprain, after the initial repair, you should carry out progressive rehabilitation exercises, such as unarmed plyometrics, balance board training, etc., to slowly restore the original range of motion and stability. For ligament or fracture injuries, follow the instructions of a professional physiotherapist and return to the clinic regularly.
At the same time, don't overlook the psychological impact. The fear of re-injury can be a factor for many people after an injury, so "mental rehabilitation" is an important part of getting back into the swing of things.
