Mission on the Track — Interview with Chinese Taipei Motorsport Association President Yang Guang-Rong

Sports events that demand more from their athletes

The general public's understanding of motorsports is usually confined to a flash of lightning; the sound of a whirring engine combined with the pressure of tires scraping against the ground; every corner seems to break the limits of gravity, and every acceleration is like a chase to escape from the speed of light. Because of this, theChinese Taipei MotorSport AssociationMr. Yang Guang-Rong highlighted that racing is not only the same as any other sport, but also requires a high level of scrutiny in all aspects!

CurrentlyChinese Taipei MotorSport Association"President Yang Guang-Rong is an important promoter of Taiwan's motorsports, and when he first entered this field, he simply fell in love with the feeling of being close to the back and the thrill of fighting against gravity that comes from driving and maneuvering. However, from go-karting, which is relatively familiar to the general public, to F1 formula racing on TV, all of them need to be equipped with relevant support measures in the race, and Mr. Yang also mentioned that "we need to enjoy the sense of speed brought by racing in a safe environment!
"How can drivers enjoy the fun of driving and racing in a safe environment at the same time? This is the philosophy of President Yang, who leads the CTMSA. Taiwan's motorsports industry has continued to flourish like a budding sapling.

Racing is more than just stepping on the gas.

Mr. Yang said that although Taiwan's motorsports is not widely recognized as a "professional sport", the racing itself is viewed as a "professional sport". However, the most important thing on the track is not the speed of the car, but the mental quality of the person.
While a racing driver has to undergo rigorous training in terms of skills and physical fitness, the sport is a test of mental qualities. From coping with the weather, road conditions and characteristics of the track to decision-making, speed control and even tire changes, all these issues require thorough preparation and simulations before the race. Racing is more than just stepping on the gas," said Mr. Yang.

A good racing driver needs to be prepared in all aspects, from physical, mental, to technical, and also needs to have good communication and teamwork skills. Mr. Yang believes that the key to racing is hidden in the details; each moment of teamwork will affect the subsequent performance on the track, just like the butterfly effect, where every action leads to the direction of the race. It is like the ripples on the surface of a lake, starting from a small action and spreading until the car crosses the finish line, and the winner's joy is reflected on the surface of the lake.
However, the sport is not a quiet one. Mr. Yang pointed out that even if the drivers are well prepared, motorsports still come with higher risks and challenges.

Risk and Mission in the World of Racing

The risks of racing are difficult to manage, and even with adequate training and support systems, danger can strike at a moment's notice. Drivers need to understand risk management, not only through technical and psychological training, but also through a basic understanding of vehicle operation. However, when faced with a risk, how it is dealt with emphasizes the qualities required of an outstanding driver.
The CTMSA continues to pursue three goals: "Safe", "Affordable", and "Enjoyable".
The high-risk nature of motorsports makes it the Association's ongoing goal to provide the safest possible environment for competition, and therefore, the Association continues to utilize its resources and technological legacy to reduce any potential hazards on the track.
The other two keys are "Affordable" and "Enjoyable".
Mr. Yang believes that motorsports costs money and time, and drivers need to think about how to afford the cost of the sport and turn the time invested into training. At the same time, it is also an issue that requires continuous assistance and encouragement for race managers.

In addition to the drivers themselves, it is also important to let the general public get closer to the atmosphere of racing! From the marketing and promotion of the races, the Association has gradually begun to think about how to let people experience the thrill of racing in addition to watching the races. Starting with karting, which is a familiar sport, the Association will allow the public to experience the feeling of racing from low-threshold races, and even introduce entry-level races into schools to cultivate more racing talents.
The Association emphasizes the importance of providing proper support and a safe environment, where the specification of the race and the responsibility of the organizers are crucial. It is only when the drivers are able to compete in a safe and secure environment that they can truly show their preparedness and bring a complete and exciting race to the people who love racing.

Looking to the Entertainment Industry to Make Racing a Common Language

As for Mr. Yang's vision and expectation, it is to let the boundary of racing extend from the track to the whole industry, from the cooperation between the teams, the brand exposure of the sponsors, the various car brands, the competition and the cooperation between the races, so that what is originally a simple racing race will be transformed into a huge entertainment industry, in the final analysis, to let the things that we love to become the common language of the public, is the ultimate goal of Mr. Yang. In the end, it is the ultimate goal of Mr. Yang to make love a common language.

When we asked how to let the layman get into the fun of racing, most only, Mr. Yang replied humorously, "Before watching the race, why don't you start with the story of the drivers and the love-hate relationship between the drivers? That way, you will be more involved in the race."
