In Taiwan's short history as a professional basketball league, many of the teams that have come to the table have come and gone, perhaps leaving a lasting impression on fans' minds or remaining unfamiliar in their memories.
But there is one team that has been around for only 3 of the 18 seasons of the SBL Super Basketball League, but has been a part of modern Taiwan Basketball League history behind the scenes: Kaohsiung!KCI Basketball Team.
Kinetix Corporation - Chairman, Mr. Shen Huicheng
Mr. Shen is a well-known and passionate basketball player in Taiwan. His love for the sport goes beyond mere support and sponsorship; during the period between the collapse of the CBA and the revival of the SBL, when Taiwan's highest basketball hall of fame was only the Social League A, Chairman Shen organized a basketball team so that Taiwan's basketball players could have a stage on which they could flourish and continue their careers as players.
Back in 2003, Lin Teh-Fu, then Chairman of the Sports Commission of the Executive Yuan, organized the "Republic of China Super Basketball League Group" in April, with the then Legislative Councilor "Dr. Basketball" Cheng Chi-Lung as the convenor, which meant that a brand-new professional basketball league was back in the arms of the fans after a four-year hiatus, with seven first division teams, namely, Yulon, Sina, Dahsin, Chung-Kwong, Taiwan Breweries, Taibei, and KCI Technology. The first season of the new SBL Super Basketball League, featuring seven first division teams, marks a new chapter in the history of Taiwan's basketball industry, and a new chapter in the history of Taiwan's basketball industry.The role played by Mrs. Kau is that of a founding patriarch.
Cradle of the Golden Generation
Perhaps fans chasing the Golden Generation will know that many players who are not as popular as Lin Chih-Chieh or Tien Loi, but still have a huge fan base, are still in the game.All of them are trained by JTech, such as Yang Yuming, Wu Daihao, Shang Weifan, Ha Xiaoyuan, Ouyang Jinheng, and so on.The first season of the SBL was a success, and everyone was looking forward to the development of the SBL in the coming years. However, KC-Tech is not a huge enterprise that you and I are familiar with, and after the establishment of the Super Basketball League, there were a lot of business groups that wanted to participate in the operation of the professional basketball industry in Taiwan. For Chairman Shen, although he had strong feelings for the team he founded, he hoped that the players would have better treatment and future development. Therefore, in the second season, he handed over K9-Technology to the Tohsin Group to take over the team, which became the Tohsin Antelope.
Time flies like a shuttle, 16 years have passed, in 2019, after a twinkling of an eye, the team continued to operate in the 16th season of the SBL under the name of Golden Gate Brewery Basketball Team, but in the same year, Golden Gate Brewery decided to stop investing in the title of the basketball team due to budgetary considerations, meaning that the team was one step away from disbanding, and the team is just one step away.After more than a decade of quietly supporting Taiwan's basketball industry from behind the scenes, Mr. Shen Huicheng, the chairman of the board of directors, decided to take over the team and bring the name of KCTCS back to the ears of SBL fans in the 17th season.
20 years laterAlthough the SBL is the mainstay of development, Taiwan's basketball has undergone drastic changes, and the newly established P.League+ (PLG Professional Basketball League for short) at the end of 2020 will have a comprehensive impact on Taiwan's basketball scene; the long-defeated home-and-away system, and the operation of the extremely enlarged commercial benefits, which are omnipresent in this generation, whether on the internet, in social media, or in the news, are a brand new impact on the SBL, which is still conservative in thinking; this wave of big breakthroughs is a new challenge.
